Redevco completes full transformation of Amstelveen property into a sustainable retail flagship

Amstelveen, 14 November 2025 – Redevco, one of Europe’s largest privately owned real estate managers, has fully redeveloped the retail property on Pieter Lastmanweg in Amstelveen. The building has been leased to Zara, FEBO, Eazie, and Wok to Go. The arrival of Zara’s new flagship store provides a fresh boost to Stadshart Amstelveen.

Zara’s relocation follows C&A’s move to the De Binnenhof shopping centre. The new store offers Zara approximately 4,500 m² of space – spread across the basement, ground floor, and three upper levels – tripling the size of their previous location.

Sustainable and Future-Proof Design
Sustainability, alongside spatial optimisation, was a key driver of the redevelopment. The façades were completely renewed, and the building received a new layout. The new plinth is clad in natural stone and framed with wooden flower window frames that accentuate the shopfronts.

The previously fully glazed pavilion on the Rembrandtweg side has been integrated into the overall structure, while new openings were added to the formerly closed upper façade, giving the building a more open appearance.

The roof has been greened with native plants, flowers, and climbing vegetation, and fitted with solar panels. The building is now entirely off the gas grid.

To address challenges related to grid congestion, a 1.2 MWh battery solution was installed. In consultation with safety experts and the local safety authority, a dedicated battery room was created in the basement of the store, fully compliant with safety standards. The battery charges overnight when energy demand is low, ensuring sufficient power is available during the day.

Ton Vaags, Head of Asset & Transaction Management Redevco NL, said:
“This redevelopment reflects our commitment to creating future-proof and vibrant urban environments. We are proud that through the transformation of this property, Redevco contributes to the renewal and sustainability of Stadshart Amstelveen. We wish all retailers great success and a prosperous future at this beautiful location in Amstelveen.”

Alderman Floor Gordon (City Centre, Sustainability) added:
“The arrival of Zara in the fully redeveloped building on Pieter Lastmanweg is a wonderful boost for Stadshart Amstelveen. This building shows how we work together with partners to create a future-proof shopping area: attractive for visitors and sustainable in design. With a green roof, solar panels, and innovative energy storage, this property contributes to our ambition to make Amstelveen more sustainable. A shopping area you love to visit – and can be proud of.”
